The Sunbathing That Never Was
Today I attempted to catch a few rays...in Minnesota.
Michelle and I had planned to spend the day at a local beach - any place where the sun was shining and the water welcomed swimmers. However, in true Minnesota style, our plans went awry due to the cloudy, unpredictable summer sky.
Michelle and I scrapped our relaxing, rejuvinating, ever-beautiful beach bathing plans and spent the day running errands, indoors.
Oh how I miss the ever-dependable Hawaii weather where everyday is just as perfect as the one before and the daily forecast is always 86 and sunny. Sigh....
And just for the record, it has been eight days since I've been to the beach. Yes, I am very much beach deprived.
Later in the day, the sun did decide to make an appearance and I was not going to let this window of opportunity pass me by.
I grabbed my sunglasses, put on a little Bob Dylan, and headed for the outdoors. I sank into the deck chair, the sun enveloped my body in its warmth, and a smile instantly crept across my face.
Ah, the sun.
And bugs.
Flies.
Ants.
Little critters continuously interrupted my precious time in the sun, crawling up and down my arms and legs, flying around my head, and even swimming in my ice water.
Ten minutes of swapping away creepy-crawlies while basking in the sun was all I could handle. I sacrificed my time in the sun for the bug-free safe zone...indoors.
And that, my friends, is the true story of my sunbathing that never was.
